These days, as our world becomes more and more heavily dependent on the technology industry, it’s only increasingly evident that some of the highest-paying jobs available are in this field. However, the general impression is that in order to score a tech job with a good salary, one must have at least one degree if not more, as well as quite a bit of experience.
Well, while it is absolutely true that tech jobs do tend to pay quite handsomely, the idea that you can only apply to work in the tech world if you already have experience in the industry is a bit misguided. The truth is that, even without any tech jobs in your work history, there are still many positions in the tech industry that you might be qualified for.
While it may require you to work on upskilling or reskilling in order to develop key tech skills that are sought-after in the marketplace, these jobs are still well within your reach even if you’ve never worked a tech job in your life.
So without further ado, here is the list of the highest-paying jobs in technology that don’t require experience.
● Digital Marketer
● Content Marketing Manager
● Web Developer
● Data Analyst
● Web Designer
● Social Media Manager
● Mobile App Developer
● Information Technology Manager
● DevOps Engineer
● Product Manager
● Sales Associate
As a digital marketer, also called a digital marketing manager or a digital marketing coordinator, you will be in charge of a brand or company’s digital marketing, typically including social media profiles, online advertising, websites, and PR. Your goal will be to improve your company’s sales, brand awareness, and customer loyalty.
This will require knowledge of search engine optimization, email and social media marketing, content, and online advertising. According to Glassdoor, the national average salary for a digital marketing manager in the UK is £46,696 per year.
A specific subset of digital marketing, content marketing involves marketing via blog posts, white papers, social media posts, videos, newsletters, and so on. As a content marketing manager, desirable skills you will be expected to have are creativity, writing, the use of content management systems, research, and a basic understanding of HTML. You can expect to make a salary of about £44,472 per year.
Web developers are some of the most sought-after employees in tech, as they are the ones who write the code behind websites and apps using programming languages like Python, Javascript, C, and Ruby on Rails. The best chance you have of snagging a developer job without experience is if you go for a junior developer position, which will require you to have basic familiarity with the coding language you’ll use. This high-paying job typically earns £33,542 per year.
Data analysts or data scientists are responsible for collecting and analyzing data and information using surveys, metrics, charts, and infographics. They must be skilled with databases, JavaScript or XML, and data mining or segmentation. If you succeed at getting a data analyst job, you can expect to earn around £36,339 per year.
Web designers at tech companies typically work on designing websites as well as newsletters and other assets for presentations and projects. They work with HTML, CSS, and design programs such as those in the Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator). Design skills are key. Like web developers, you’ll probably have to start as a junior web designer if you don’t have experience in the field. Web designers in the UK earn an average of £33,098 per year.
Nearly every tech company has somebody in charge of their social media marketing, which is a must-have marketing strategy these days. A good social media manager is a good writer, knows how to use analytics tools and interpret data, can use social media scheduling tools and calendars, and keeps up to date on social media trends. Have what it takes? You could be earning around £33,318 per year.
Now that everything is expected to work as smoothly on mobile as it does on websites, tech companies everywhere are seeking capable mobile app developers who know how to code, test, and debug mobile applications. Those who do earn an average salary of £34,637 per year.
The information technology (IT) team in a tech company is typically responsible for monitoring the company’s IT infrastructure, developing the rules and protocol behind the usage of the company’s computers, data, and networks. As an IT manager, you will supervise this team and earn approximately £51,379 per year.
DevOps (standing for development operations) is a practice that combines software development with IT operations. A DevOps engineer will work on creating processes, tools, and methodologies for the entire software development life cycle from coding to deployment to maintenance to updates. A DevOps engineer usually earns about £47,661 per year.
A product manager at a tech company is usually in charge of prioritizing and planning roadmaps and strategies for the development of products that are built by software developers. They must be skilled at leadership, collaboration, strategic thinking, and public speaking, and can earn around £51,513 per year.
A sales associate or a sales rep is the employee at a tech company in charge of selling the tech product that the developers have built. Like any sales employee, they must have strong people and communication skills as well as a thorough knowledge of the product. A tech sales associate in the UK usually earns around £37,916 per year.
